The Cedar Springs Middle School Bands are comprised of a Seventh Grade Band and an Eighth Grade Band. They are directed by Mr. Borst and Mr. Shaw. They meet for one hour daily, and perform in several concerts throughout the year. The Eighth Grade Band performs the opening ceremony at the Red Flannel Marching Competition and marches in the Red Flannel Parade. Both bands compete in the District Band Festival, where they received Superior ratings last year.
In addition to the Middle School Concert Bands, last year saw the addition of a Middle School Jazz Band, directed by Mr. Shaw. Students must try out to participate, and show a willingness to learn about jazz music and improvisation. The Middle School Jazz Band performed at several concerts, as well as Fine Arts Night and the first annual Band Auction.
