Elementary

Fifth Grade

Instrumental Music begins in the fifth grade, with students receiving instruction on recorders.  This prepares the students for 6th grade band the following year, where they begin playing the flute, clarinet, alto saxophone,  trumpet, French horn, baritone, trombone, tuba, or percussion.  In most cases, students will provide their own instrument. If you have questions regarding the cost of instruments, please phone any local music store to obtain an accurate price quote. Most local music stores have reasonable rental or rent to own programs. Check around because prices and deals vary from store to store. Used instruments are often available if you shop early!

Sixth Grade Band

6th Grade Concert

Welcome to 6th Grade Band!  This year, students will learn the proper care and assembly for their instruments, as well as how to correctly produce a tone.  Everyone will be provided with a folder and method book for their instruments, and they should bring a pencil to class each day.

As students learn their new instruments, they need to practice what is taught during class for homework, which includes filling out weekly practice charts.  Practice charts must be signed by parents or guardians, and are due on Fridays.  Percussion students are required to practice 100 minutes per week, and brass and woodwinds must practice 50 minutes per week.

The 6th Grade Band is directed by Mr. Adam Borst and Mr. Ryan Shaw.
