Officers and Committee Chairs

There are over 400 students in the Instrumental Music programs at Cedar Springs Public Schools. Not only is that a lot of work for two directors to handle alone, but it also takes a lot of time, effort, caring, and money! That’s where the Music Boosters help out.

The following list contains the contact information for the current Music Booster Officers and Committee Chairs. If you have questions regarding the Band program or are interested in becoming more involved with the Boosters, contact one of the people below, and they will do their best to help you out.

Fund Raising Programs

Although many parents sigh when they hear the word “fundraiser”, it is a necessary evil in all organizations. There is never enough money for all the things we want to do and provide for our Band students, and funding from the schools and the state is constantly in jeopardy. Without the fundraising efforts of the Boosters and the students, Cedar Springs would not have the outstanding band program that it has today.

Fundraising occurs at every level, from 6th grade through high school. The Music Boosters participate in several different fundraisers throughout the year and one that is ongoing: Scrip. The types of fundraisers change from year to year, as we find out what sells the best, and what doesn’t make any money.

Common fundraisers for our organization include: Entertainment Books, sub sandwiches, “Mixed Bags” which are terrific carry-alls with nylon straps, candy bars, and delicious apple, cherry and blueberry pies that are made by our students and volunteers with the help and equipment of a pie fundraising company.

A percentage of your purchases from Family Fare and D&W can be credited to Cedar Springs Bands during certain weeks of the year. Our “Cash For Class” code is 96737. For more information, and to automatically tie our organization to your “Yes Rewards” card, go to www.myyesrewards.com.

Another terrific way to donate money to the band program is to Become a Band Patron. With a donation of $10 or more, your name or customized ad will be published in the event programs for the Red Flannel Marching Competition and the Cedar Springs MCBA Competition. This is a wonderful way to advertise your business or tell your senior that you’re proud of all they’ve accomplished in Band over the years! Click here for more information on becoming a Band Patron.

Please see our News page and our Calendar for specific fundraiser information and due dates.

Scrip

Scrip cards are gift cards – just like you buy at the store. When you purchase Scrip, a percentage of your purchase goes into your Band student’s account. Your cost for the Scrip cards is simply the face value of the gift card. But retailers sell the cards to us a discount and that discount goes to your student’s Band account. Every retailer has a standard discount percentage.

For instance, if you purchase a $25 Scrip card from Barnes and Noble, they sell it to us at a 9% discount. 25% of that 9% discount goes to Cedar Springs Music Boosters, and 75% goes into your student’s account! That was an easy way to make $1.69! With just a few Scrip purchases during the year, your student can have enough money in their account to pay for next year’s band camp fees, trips, reeds, etc. It doesn’t get much easier than that!

Scrip cards are available for hundreds of retailers, and are great gifts for birthdays, graduations, and Christmas. Or use them to get gas, groceries and school clothes at your usual locations, including Wal-Mart, Speedway, American Eagle, and hundreds more! Click here for a list of retailers.

Scip orders are due in the Band room on Monday and will be placed on Tuesday. Your order can be picked up the following Monday at Band practice or it can be sent home with your student. If you would like more information, contact Robin Secord
